A Miele vacuum with a dust bag is great for people who have allergies because they don't release dirt, dust, and other irritating particles back into the air while they're running or when you change the bag out. Families with infants also opt for bagged vacuum cleaners for this reason.

It's best to change the bags out regularly for your vacuum to keep doing its job well. This guide lays out which Miele vacuum bags fit which vacuum and the differences between them. We'll show you how to buy the right bags and explain when and how to replace them.

The Miele vacuum cleaner bag that you need depends on your model. Some canister vacuums have bigger bodies and require larger GN bags. However, the entry-level canisters are typically smaller and take FJM bags. The stick and upright vacuums require more slender bags.

You can also mix and match filters and bags to create a custom vacuum system. For example, if you don't have allergies, you don't necessarily need to buy replacement HEPA filters.

There are four Miele vacuum bag sizes on the market: GN, FJM, U, and KK. To help you remember which type your vacuum uses, Miele color-coded them. Miele canisters can take two types of dustbags: FJM or GN. Miele upright vacuums take U, and Miele upright/stick vacuums use KK.

Have you ever felt like your vacuum was releasing a smell as you cleaned? Not with a Miele. Miele vacuum cleaner bags have a thick, multilayer, cloth-like texture that doubles as an initial filter. They help make sure that the dust and debris you vacuum up doesn't escape back out.

As dirt and debris get sucked into a Miele vacuum, they go directly into the bag, where they get sealed up tightly. Miele dust bags are so powerful that they capture over 99.9 percent of all dust particles. Next, the air moves into the motor, which is protected by a motor cleaner filter. (P.S.: This filter should be changed every four bags. It is included in all Miele vacuum bag packages.) Finally, the air moves through a HEPA, charcoal, or standard clean air filter.

High-quality filtration is what makes Miele vacuums stand out from the competition. If you suffer from allergies or have an infant in the house, you will appreciate the fact that the air Miele canister vacuums emit is cleaner than the air they pull in.

1. Access and remove the full vacuum bag. Lift the release button on the dust compartment lid until it clicks. That lets you open up the compartment where the bag is. Firmly grasp the plastic collar of the filter bag and pull gently to remove it. No worries if you have allergies: Miele designed its vacuum bags with a unique flap that closes over the top to prevent dust or debris from spilling out.

With average use, a Miele vacuum cleaner bag should last for around three months. However, this can vary depending on your home and how often you vacuum. If you have a large home or wall-to-wall carpets, budget to replace your bag every month.

While similar, Miele's HyClean and AirClean bags aren't identical, nor are they interchangeable. The HyClean bag, which has been discontinued and isn't designed for U.S. models, has strips designed to prevent tears or rips. The AirClean bags are designed to function better within the vacuum and are designed to better store dust and debris without quick filling or accidental spills.

Vacuum bags, especially those with HEPA filters, containing fiberglass fibers has been a recent concern, but it's not one to worry about with Miele. Miele vacuum cleaner bags have never contained any fiberglass.

Miele manufactures its own line of replacement filters, and each model vacuum calls for a unique filter. The best way to learn what filter you need is to check your user manual or refer to the table we created above explaining the different types of bags.

Changing the filter in your vacuum is similar to changing Miele vacuum cleaner bags. Once you open the compartment where your vacuum bag is kept, you will instead gently remove the existing filter from its holder, which is often in the upper left quadrant of the compartment.

It's always recommended to use only genuine Miele bags with your Miele vacuum. Not only are certified bags better designed to fit your vacuum and provide the best benefits, but using a generic bag can also void your warranty.

3D designation in Miele marketing is an industry mystery. Company imprinted this on all vacuum bags but without an explanation of what it is and customer benefits. We assume that they want to make a reference to multi-layer thickness of their bags.

One edge case to consider: If you have a lot of hairy pets, like four golden retrievers or a half-dozen long-haired cats, you might want to avoid bagged vacuums. Pet hair fills bags quickly, and the cost of replacing bags so frequently can add up. Read more about the best vacuums for pet hair.

Bagged vacuum cleaners are a good option if you prioritize air quality and ease of maintenance. Unlike a bagless vacuum, debris is stored in a disposable container, virtually eliminating the risk of a plume of dust releasing when you empty your vacuum. Even though dirtbags tend to need frequent replacement, driving up recurring costs, they effectively act as air filters, keeping fine debris from being released as you clean. Since the onboard filters don't have to work quite as hard as those in a bagless vacuum, user maintenance is a little less demanding, too.

We've tested over 130 vacuum cleaners, and below are our recommendations for the best vacuum cleaners with a dirtbag. These picks were selected not only based on their design but also their feature set and price. For more buying recommendations, look at our lists of the best vacuums, our best canister vacuums, and the best laminate floor vacuums.

The Kenmore Intuition Bagged is the best bagged upright vacuum we've tested. It isn't nearly as well-built as a premium canister vacuum like the Miele Complete C3 or as easy to maneuver, but it's a lot cheaper and features an integrated powerhead for improved surface agitation on carpeted floors compared to the straight-suction nozzle found on cheaper variants of the C3. While its filtration system isn't quite as sophisticated, it has a HEPA filter and is compatible with HEPA-rated dirtbags, limiting the spread of allergens as you clean. You can drop its dirtbag out of its housing with the press of a latch, so you don't need to worry about kicking up a plume of dust when taking it out. Its 'Lift-Up' alternative configuration allows you to pick up and carry its canister body separately from its floorhead, making it easier to clean on top of furniture or shelves.

If you're looking for a similarly-priced canister vacuum that incurs lower ownership costs, the NaceCare HVR 200 Henry is a very solid option that uses higher-capacity dirtbags. However, its suction motor is less powerful than the C1, so it doesn't do quite as well for raw debris pickup.

Our recommendations are based on what we think are currently the best bagged vacuum cleaners. We don't just base our results on overall performance, but also factors like availability, price, and reader feedback.

Bagged vacuum cleaner technology has been around for decades and has enjoyed a long history cleaning our homes. At its core, the system generates enough suction to pull dust and other particulates off floors and into a disposable bag. Some bagged vacuums also use a high-efficiency particulate air filter, or a HEPA filter. Once the bag is full, you remove the bag and dispose of it, all without having to touch the collected dust, hair or other debris.

One big drawback to bagged vacuum cleaners is that they tend to be relatively bulky and heavy. Some models can weigh as much as 16 pounds. That said, times are changing, and you'll find a few bagged cleaners that tip the scales at 10 pounds or less. Others have cut the cord completely and come with rechargeable batteries.

The Dyson bagless vacuum cleaner was first prototyped in the 1980s and popularized the idea of a vacuum cleaner without bags. The device really caught on in the early 2000s, and Dyson's been running with the idea ever since.

Plenty of competitors have noticed and created their own versions of Dyson's cordless, bagless vacuum cleaner. The field now includes everything from upstart outfits like Moosoo to household names such as Shark and Hoover. And they all have Dyson's product's signature feature: a transparent compartment for vacuumed particulates that you can empty and return to the machine.

Dyson's impetus for creating a bagless vacuum cleaner was to design an appliance that didn't rapidly lose suction or clog often. That said, Dyson's current cleaners also address other needs. These machines are lighter and easier to use, especially because they aren't tethered to a cumbersome power cord while cleaning. For instance, Dyson's V15 Detect weights in at 6.8 pounds.

One positive aspect of bagless vacuum cleaners is that they allow you to dispose of waste directly from the machine. That's a big contrast to bagged cleaners which generate more physical waste, forcing you to throw away entire bags each time one is full.

If you live in a home prone to a high volume of particulates, for instance with multiple cats or dogs, you'll likely dispose of a disproportionately large number of vacuum bags. That alone might tip the scales toward buying a bagless vacuum cleaner, especially for the environmentally conscious. Even so, despite the growth in popularity of green products, at least one study suggests that features, price and power are more important to the average vacuum shopper. 041b061a72
